Principal News and Notes

December 2018

Principal Steve Lucas

Hello Cavalier Family and Happy Holidays!

It would be impossible for me not to start this newsletter without a reference to the holidays, so on behalf of everyone here at Calvert High School I would like to wish everyone peace and happiness over this season. I earnestly pray we all take some time to remember why we celebrate this month and embrace feelings of gratitude and forgiveness to our neighbors and loved ones.

November seemed to come and go quite quickly, so I just want to remind everyone we are deep into the second quarter. In fact, the second quarter interims are right around the corner becoming available December 7. If you did not have the chance, or were unable to check your student’s first quarter grades, I strongly advise you do so with your student. No matter the results, everyone should be looking to build on the first quarter and strive to show growth throughout the year. I will continue to remind everyone there is no fifth marking period and this greatly increases the importance of the quarterly grades.

Winter sports has kicked off and we will be fully engaged beginning the first week of December. Indoor track, Swimming, and Wrestling all have meets scheduled. Basketball will begin in full the second week of the month. Supporting our student athletes is a great activity for your family and super value-added entertainment so I recommend everyone get out to a game or contest whenever you can.

Speaking of high quality entertainment, Winter concerts are also being held the first week of December. Chorus, Band, and Orchestra perform December 4, 5, and 6 respectively and will perform exceptionally. I encourage you to come in and see a show in our fabulous auditorium.

Finally, I’d just like to send out a word of encouragement directly to our students this month. A great school is the reflection of great students and we truly have an exceptional student body here at Calvert High School. Take time to tell them how great they are because they are working hard and deserve it. Finally, from my family to yours, take care and have a wonderful holiday season.

Sincerely,
Steven Lucas
